Description

The chakapa, also known as the “medicine rattle”, is a handmade shamanic instrument that is deeply rooted in the tradition of the Amazonian peoples. It is made from the leaves of the Pariana palm, a type of bamboo grass that grows in the heart of the rainforest. These palm leaves are particularly robust and produce the characteristic, soothing rustle when shaken, reminiscent of the sound of gentle rain. The sound of the chakapa helps to direct healing energies, release blockages and create a space of peace and harmony.

Properties:

  • Material: Natural palm leaves of the Pariana palm tree, handmade in a respectful approach to nature
  • Size: Compact and lightweight, ideal for travel and ceremonies
  • Sound: Soothing rustling that grounds the senses and aids in meditation and healing rituals

Application: The chakapa is often used in conjunction with chants and medicinal plants such as guayusa or blue lotus. It is ideal for shamanic rituals, energy work and deeper meditations by spreading healing vibrations in the room and bringing protection and calm. Shamans use them to cleanse energies, release blockages and create deep spiritual connections. Whether for one’s own spiritual practice or as a companion during ceremonial work – the chakapa is an indispensable tool for all those who want to integrate the healing sound of the Amazon into their lives.

These chakapas are handmade in the Amazon jungle in Peru, where they are used as rhythm and healing instruments. It is a bundle of leaves of the Olyra latifolia plant that produce a hypnotic and soothing rattling sound when shaken.

Traditionally, the chakapa is used by the shaman during ayahuasca ceremonies, where icaros are also chanted to summon the spirit helpers.

The sound is designed to comfort the patient during the ceremony and can help “cleanse” the energy around the patient. Shamans have a variety of movements that produce different sounds and waves of energy.

It is said that once the shaman has captured evil spirits in the chakapa, he blows them through the leaves into the forest. There, every negative energy is absorbed by the trees and plants and dispersed in the purifying love of Mother Nature.
