What is Rapé?
Rapé (pronounced ha-peh) is a fine, consecrated plant powder that has been used in ceremonial practices for centuries by indigenous peoples of the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazons. It is applied through a tube – the so-called kuripe (self-administration) or tepi (blown by another person) – into the nasal passages.
Traditionally, Rapé contains mapacho (Nicotiana rustica), a sacred tobacco plant, as well as plant ash and strain-specific medicinal plants. But not everyone wants to or can work with nicotine. This is exactly where tobacco-free rapé comes in.
Who is tobacco-free rapé suitable for?
- People with nicotine sensitivity or intolerance
- Practitioners who live tobacco-free
- Beginners who want to gently get started with rapé practice
- Ceremonial work in combination with other plant medicines
Note (Swiss food law): Rapé is a traditional plant powder for cultic and ritual use. It is not a food, a drug or a tobacco product. All information on traditional applications is for ethnobotanical information purposes only.
