Mapacho Maso from Peru – Traditional plant power from the Amazon

Mapacho Maso is a handmade plant product from the Peruvian Amazon, consisting of fermented and carefully bundled leaves of Nicotiana rustica, a traditional jungle plant. This compact plant mass is produced according to traditional recipes and is deeply rooted in the spiritual practices of many indigenous cultures in South America.

For generations, mapacho has been used by shamans and healers in various rituals – for example for energetic cleansing, protection, meditation or to connect with nature. In many traditions, this plant is considered a powerful companion for clarity, focus and spiritual direction.

Note: Mapacho is not a tobacco product within the meaning of the Swiss Tobacco Products Act. It is an ethnobotanical product for smoking or ceremonial use. Not recommended for use as smoking tobacco or for consumption.

Application in traditional contexts

In Amazonian herbal medicine, mapacho is used as a tool for cleansing spaces and energies – comparable to smoking sage. The practice of “soplado” is particularly widespread, in which the aromatic smoke is blown over a person or a room with a clear intention in order to balance and clear energies.

Mapacho is also used in combination with other plants in rituals such as ayahuasca ceremonies or in the work of specialized herbalists, known as tobaqueros.

Storage of Mapacho Maso

Our mapacho masos come vacuum-packed directly from the Peruvian jungle and are naturally moist and aromatic. This preserves their quality:

• Unopened: Store in a cool, dry place in a vacuum – the Maso will keep for many months.

• Once opened: Wrap individual pieces in paper and store in a cool place.

• Care: If the outside of the bundle dries out, it can be carefully sprayed with a little distilled water. Ideally, leave to moisten for 1-2 days in an airtight bag, then wrap in paper again.

Important: Do not store in plastic bags (without vacuum) – this can lead to mold growth.
