Tepi from Peru – Rapé applicator made of Palo Sangre wood

This Tepi is a rapé applicator for use between two people. It is made in Peru and is made of Palo Sangre wood, a dense and resistant hardwood with dark, reddish grains.

The applicator is finished with a beaded wrap in orange, green & black . The geometric patterns are visually based on designs of the Shipibo-Konibo culture and are used for decorative design. It is not a traditional ceremonial object.

Application

A Tepi is used for rapé application from one person to another. The curved shape supports targeted, controlled transmission and allows for calm, conscious application in ritual or personal context.

Due to the solid workmanship of the Palo Sangre wood, the applicator lies comfortably in the hand and offers a stable guide during use.
