Awiry is a plant that is traditionally used by the Apurinã to make their rapé. It adds a natural green tone to the mixture and is only harvested during the dry season, when the riverbanks recede. Unlike tobacco, Awiry is neither fermented nor heated, but gently dried and then finely ground to preserve its vibrant green color.
