Description

Mapacho pipe – Traditional Shipibo style (Peru)

This Mapacho pipe is made in Peru in the traditional Shipibo-Conibo style. The bowl is made of wood with typical Shipibo engravings; the long mouthpiece is made of bamboo and is removable – ideal for easy cleaning and transportation. As each pipe is made by hand, the shape, pattern and wood grain can vary – each piece is unique.

Traditional use by the Shipibo

The Shipibo have been using mapacho (Nicotiana rustica), a strong Amazonian tobacco, in rituals for generations. Smoking or blowing out the smoke is traditionally used for energetic cleansing, protection and to align and focus the ritual space. Mapacho is considered a sacred plant ally that supports the connection to the plant spirits and accompanies the work of the healers.
