Chakapa – Shipibo Handle

The chakapa is a traditional shamanic tool from the Amazon region, made from the leaves of the pariana or chacapa plant (a type of bamboo). In the hands of indigenous healers – especially the Shipibo-Conibo in Peru – it has been used in healing ceremonies for generations.

Traditional application

During ayahuasca or medicinal plant ceremonies, the chakapa is gently shaken. The rustling of the leaves cleanses energetic fields, calms the mind and deepens the connection to plant medicine. It is used to dispel negative energies, open healing spaces and promote harmony in body, mind and soul.

Manufacture

Each chakapa is tied by hand and traditionally dried. The handle is decorated with artistic, handmade patterns – inspired by the visions and cosmic patterns of the Shipibo culture.

Handling & care

On receipt, the Chakapa can be lightly sprayed with water and carefully shaped to restore its original volume. It should always be stored in a dry place and protected from direct sunlight to preserve the leaves and colors. Before and after use, it can be gently shaken out to remove dust. To preserve its energetic effect, it is recommended to cleanse the Chakapa after intensive rituals with incense such as Palo Santo or Copal.
