Tradition & Cultural Significance

In Putumayo, cacao is considered the “food of the gods” and a heart opener used in rituals
of thanksgiving, connection, and healing. For many communities, it is a
natural mood lifter, aphrodisiac and companion for clarity and grounding – based on
centuries of experience.

Each cup is seen as a bridge between earth and heart, body and spirit.

Preparation – Classic or Ceremonial

Ceremonial preparation

  • 25–40 g cocoa per person
  • mix with approx. 200 ml water or plant milk
  • Melt slowly at low temperature (do not boil)
  • stir gently until the mixture becomes creamy and frothy
  • optional spices such as cinnamon, chili, cardamom, vanilla

Traditional Amazon preparation

  • Stir approx. 20–30 g cocoa into approx. 120 ml warm, non-boiling water (max. 45 °C so that the nutrients are retained as best as possible)

  • Sweeten with honey or raw sugar if desired

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, below 25 °C. This preserves the aroma, natural fats and
ritual quality.
