Catuaba (Trichilia catigua) – shredded or powder, from Brazil
Catuaba is extracted from the bark of the Trichilia catigua tree, which is native to the rainforests of Brazil. We offer Catuaba in two variants: coarsely chopped/shredded (classic for tea/decoction) or as a fine powder (for tea, smoothies or capsules). The aroma is tart-woody and earthy – ideal for conscious time-outs.
Which variant is right for you?
1) Catuaba shredded (coarsely chopped)
The classic choice for decoction (decoction). Due to the coarser structure, the rind slowly pulls out and unfolds a particularly round, traditional aroma profile.
2) Catuaba Powder
Versatile and practical: as a tea, to stir into smoothies or to fill into capsules.
Botanical Information
Trichilia catigua belongs to the mahogany family (Meliaceae). The tree bears white flowers and small fruits – but traditionally the bark is mainly used.
Traditional use (culturally handed down)
In Brazil, Catuaba has been valued for generations in traditional botany as a strengthening tonic and culturally associated with vitality, joie de vivre and passion . The bark is often prepared as a decoction and sometimes combined with plants such as guarana or muira puama in herbal mixtures.
