Bobinsana leaves – Traditional tea from Peru
Bobinsana (Calliandra angustifolia) is a plant from the Amazon region that has been valued for centuries by indigenous communities in Peru and used in various ceremonies and tea preparations. The dried leaves are ideal for preparing a gentle, aromatic infusion.
Origin & plant
Bobinsana is a small tree from the mimosa family that grows mainly along the rivers in the Amazon basin. Its delicate, pink flowers, which look like small “powder puffs”, are particularly well-known. In Peru, bobinsana is considered a plant with deep spiritual significance and is traditionally used in ceremonies and for tea preparations.
Traditional use
Indigenous peoples in the Amazon prepare an infusion from the leaves, which is drunk in social gatherings, during rituals and also as an ingredient in herbal mixtures. In these contexts, bobinsana is regarded as a “herbal teacher” that plays a role in meditation, dreaming and inner contemplation. Bobinsana is also used in combination with other plants in traditional herbalism.
Preparation of Bobinsana tea
- 1-2 tablespoons of Bobinsana leaves per cup (250 ml)
- Pour over with hot water (90-100 °C)
- Leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes
The infusion develops a mild, earthy aroma and can be enjoyed on its own or as part of herbal blends.
