Description

The Apurinã are known for their exclusive green rapé, which differs significantly from the products of other tribes in the region. This unique snuff is made from the leaves of a sacred plant called Awiry, which is considered by some to be a kind of wild tobacco.

Apurina Awiry Rapé contains neither ash nor tobacco. Finely sieved, ground Awiri leaves give it its characteristic green color and make it an ideal choice for those who prefer a tobacco-free snuff.

Unlike tobacco, which is fermented during the drying process and rolled onto sticks or ropes for storage, Awiry is neither fermented nor heated. The leaves are simply dried and then ground directly to preserve the green color. As a result, this rapé is considered raw and alive.

Discover the unique and appreciated Apurinã Green Rapé snuff powder, also known as Awiry. This exceptional snuff powder, which stands out from other regional varieties, holds a special place in our traditions. Named after the plant from which it is made, Awiry is sometimes considered a type of wild tobacco, although it is generally considered a tobacco-free snuff powder.

The Awiry plant

The Awiry plant thrives along the river banks and can only be harvested at certain times of the year. During the rainy season, river levels rise and flood the area where it grows, limiting our crops to the dry season. Although it grows wild, it is now also cultivated by some communities to ensure a more reliable supply.

Production

Unlike the common Nicotinum rustica tobacco in Brazil, which is fermented and rolled into sticks or strands, Awiry is naturally dried, without fermentation or heating, which preserves its bright green color. The dried plant is then ground into a fine powder. Unlike many other indigenous rapés, Apurinã Awiry does not contain ashes; it consists only of the ground plant material and can therefore be considered raw and living rapé.

Traditional use

Apurinã Awiry is traditionally inhaled through a tube, a method also used by tribes that use Yopo. Take a small amount in your hand and snort it through a bone or bamboo tube. This method is a characteristic feature of our practice and differs from the usual use of kuripe or tepi for self-application or for use by another person.

Special and Rare

Due to its connection to the rivers and the seasonal nature of the harvest, Apurinã Awiry is a rare and special rapé. Increased cultivation could make it more available in the future, but for now it remains a valued and sought-after product.

Experience the rich tradition and unique properties of Apurinã Green Rapé Snuff Powder: Awiry, a true testament to our cultural heritage and the natural beauty of our surroundings.
