This altar cloth comes from the Andes (Peru) and is also known as Mestana or Mesa .
It was made using a traditional weaving technique and features bold colors of blue, red and yellow with ornate patterns.
The cloths are made by indigenous families in the high Andes and preserve a centuries-old textile heritage.
Meaning & Usage
In the Andean tradition, the mesa serves as a ritual “altar” on which sacred objects, stones, symbols or plants are placed.
The geometric patterns stand for the connection between heaven, earth and the Apus (mountain spirits).
