Andean Mesa – Traditional Altar Cloth

This altar cloth comes from the Andes (Peru) and is also known as Mestana or Mesa .
It was made using a traditional weaving technique and features bold colors of blue, red and yellow with ornate patterns.
The cloths are made by indigenous families in the high Andes and preserve a centuries-old textile heritage.

Meaning & Usage

In the Andean tradition, the mesa serves as a ritual “altar” on which sacred objects, stones, symbols or plants are placed.
The geometric patterns stand for the connection between heaven, earth and the Apus (mountain spirits).
The scarf is not only a practical companion, but also a spiritual symbol of balance, harmony and protection.
