Shipibo Manta with Toé Flowers – Hand Embroidered in Pucallpa
This ornate Shipibo Manta (Tela) was hand-embroidered by a Shipibo family from Pucallpa. At the center is a floral flower shape, framed by four toé flowers (Brugmansia) – one of the most powerful plant spirits of the Shipibo healing tradition. The bright colors and geometric-spiral patterns reflect the interplay of healing energy, protection and vision.
Symbolism and meaning of the toé plant
Toé (also known as Brugmansia or Angel’s Trumpet) is a highly visionary plant with a deeply transformative effect. In the spiritual world of the Shipibo-Konibo , she is considered the teacher of dreams and shadow work. Shamans use toé with great respect, usually in isolation and under guidance, to explore deeper levels of consciousness, release blockages and communicate with ancestors or spirit beings.
The four toé flowers on this manta symbolize the four cardinal points and the protective circle of the master plants. The center represents the inner orientation and the spiritual heart of the human being.
