Description

Sacred Flores – Ceremonial Cacao from the Heart of Indonesia

Deep in the interior of the island of Flores, surrounded by volcanic soils and tropical rainforest, grows a cacao that has been cared for by smallholder families for generations. Far from industrial structures and nestled within natural mixed forests of vanilla, cloves, bananas and native trees, it unfolds its complex aroma profile. Sacred Flores is not a mass product but a gift of the earth – a pure single-origin cacao for quiet morning moments, as an attunement to meditation and as the heart of your cacao ceremony.

Origin and Cultivation – Rooted in the Volcanic Soil of Flores

Sacred Flores is made from Trinitario and Forastero beans grown in the species-rich agroforestry systems of the Indonesian island of Flores. The cacao trees grow in living community with other wild plants, free from pesticides and chemical fertilisers. The volcanic soils give the beans their mineral depth and characteristic aroma. Harvesting is done by hand and selectively, exclusively at full ripeness – each pod carefully opened, each bean individually chosen.

Processing – Two-Stage Fermentation and Stone-Mill TraditionVerarbeitung – zweistufige Fermentation und Steinmühlen-Tradition

After harvest the beans undergo a two-stage fermentation process developed by experienced Indonesian fermentation specialists: a natural anaerobic fermentation for a clean, complete ferment, followed by an aerobic post-fermentation that intensifies the fruity, complex aromas. The beans are then gently ground into a fine cacao mass on traditional stone mills in Ubud, Bali, over around 72 hours and poured into a 500 g block. This elaborate process preserves the natural aromatic compounds and yields a velvety, full-bodied texture – with no added sugar, milk or other ingredients.

Taste profile

Sacred Flores impresses with a round, deeply chocolatey base, complemented by subtle fruit notes and a slightly nutty, spicy finish. The texture is creamy and melting – ideal for slow, mindful preparation in a ceremonial context.

For Your Cacao Ceremony at Home

A cacao ceremony creates a conscious space: for intentions, for stillness, for opening the heart. Sacred Flores is particularly well suited to this.

  • Personal cacao ceremonies and meditations
  • Group ceremonies and healing circles
  • Sound journeys and breathwork as accompaniment
  • Morning rituals and mindful self-care

Preparation recommendation

For your personal ritual at home, just 10–20 g of cacao mass is enough, roughly two to four teaspoons, chopped or grated from the block. For intensive ceremonies and group work, 30–45 g per person is recommended.

  1. Grate or chop the desired amount from the block.
  2. Heat 200–250 ml of water or plant-based drink to a maximum of 65 °C, without boiling.
  3. Stir the cacao slowly and mindfully with a molinillo or whisk.
  4. If desired, refine with a pinch of chilli, cinnamon, cardamom or a little coconut blossom sugar.
  5. Take your time, set an intention and enjoy consciously.

Fairness and Community

Part of the proceeds go directly to the local communities on Flores – for infrastructure, education and sustainable agriculture. Trade is carried out directly without intermediaries, with fair wages and a transparent supply chain.
