The power of mint

Mint is much more than just a refreshing herb. Two species are particularly common in Brazil:

• Mentha arvensis
• Mentha spicata

Another central component of this rapé is awiry, a plant used by the Apurinã tradition as a type of wild tobacco. It is harvested exclusively during the dry season, when the river banks recede and the plant becomes accessible. Unlike industrial tobacco, Awiry is not fermented or heated, but naturally dried and finely sieved – which retains its bright green color.
